How To Remove Coffee Stains From Carpet? Know It Here

I start every busy morning with a cup of coffee. Like many of us, it helps me wake up and get through my endless list of tasks. In this rush, it is not uncommon for me to spill a bit of coffee on my way from the kitchen to the office. In fact, it is a pretty common occurrence for me.

Which is why I have searched the internet and tested numerous methods on how to remove coffee stains from your carpet. Thinking I am going to name some fancy product you have to order via Amazon? Nope! My favorite methods can be done with products you already have in home. Or can purchase from the grocery store and use for multiple other purposes.

What You Will Need To Follow This Tutorial

  •  Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Warm water
  • Sponge

If you don’t have a sponge then a wash cloth can work fine but may not blot as well. You will have to be more gentle with the stain and be sure to avoid rubbing the stain.

Wondering how much?

In my search for the best methods I found various ratios. However, none of them suggested how much I would need in relation to the size of the stain. In the step by step instructions I explain how much to use based on the size of your stain.

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1: Determine the size of the stain

Determine the size of the stain to know how much you should use of each ingredient. For every stain about the size of a quarter, I would use 1 tablespoon of dish soap, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, and 1 cup of water. For example, a stain that spans 3 quarters worth of an area I would use 3 tablespoons of dish soap, 3 tablespoons of white vinegar and 3 cups of water.

Step 2: Measure out the ingredients and mix

Using a tablespoon, measure out the dish soap, white vinegar and water. Combining all ingredients into a small bowl. Mix all ingredients until well combined.

Step 3: Using the sponge, BLOT the affected area

Using a sponge, soak up the mixture from the small bowl. Then blot the affected area with the sponge. Do not rub! You risk pushing the stain even deeper into the carpet. You have to think like you are trying to soak and loosen the stain. Then soak it back up with the sponge.

Step 4: Repeat blotting until stain appears removed or mixture is gone

Continue to blot the area with the mixture until you are sure the stain appears removed or you use up the entire mixture.

Step 5: Clean sponge and blot excess liquid

Rinse sponge of excess liquid. Then ring out sponge to it feels dry or a little damp. Blot the stain to remove excess liquid and coffee stain that was brought up from step 5.

Step 6: Rinse sponge with water and repeat blotting with water

Rinse the sponge again and blot area with water to remove any missed mixture and coffee stain not picked up in step 6.

Step 7: Let stain dry, unbothered

Lastly, let the stain air dry. Try to avoid stepping or bothering the stain until it is completely dried.
